When I join a company I have a LOT of questions.
I mean a LOT.
I probably talk to my direct to corporate designer 3 times or more a day and it’s good that she has the patience of a Saint. Of course I do that because I want to soak up everything there is to know about Mialisia Jewelry, learn the compensation plan, and understand every part of the Mialisia Application so I can help someone through it, and as always, provide the best service to my personal team members.
Being on a team that is fast growing and supportive means a lot of hard work!
So recently when I asked Annelise and Sean Brown, Founders of Mialisia & Co., if I could ask them a few questions about their business, they were more than happy to do so!
Mialisia Founders Exclusive Interview
1) As a woman that works from home and someone that has invented a product before, I know how much strain can go on the family. How do you and your wife keep your family priorities while still giving each other the support to grow a new business?
It’s a balance – there are several times a day when we have to stop what were doing and put our children first. It has not been easy and there was no magic potion. There are days when things work and there are days when things don’t work. The key is to forgive quickly, stay humble and focus on being grateful that we have these opportunities. We have found that when gratitude is at the center of what we do, our attitudes are much better and we are able to juggle and balance more priorities. (It doesn’t hurt that we have a great family and friends support system)
2) Many new direct sales companies have problems with too MUCH growth TOO quickly that results in inventory and logistics issues. What would you tell a new designer looking to join but is hesitating due to other bad experiences they have had with other companies? How is Mialisia different?
Here comes that word balance again :) In this scenario it is a balance between the excitement and viral nature of a great idea and that the chance to be a part of the something from the beginning mixed with delivering the service that our designers and customers expect. There is a need to ramp up operations as quickly as possible and control the growth to allow that to happen. We have advisers and employees with many years of experience that are helping us do just that. We realize we will not be perfect at this but we feel we are prepared.
3) When given the choice, why would someone join now as a Founding Designer vs joining in the future when the company is more “established”.
Opportunities are great for both choices. In the business world hyper growth happens in successful companies between years 1-5 usually followed by a period after that of steady growth. Joining in the early years of any company can be a risk, but if you choose wisely then the rewards are multiplied. Just ask people that bought Microsoft or Google stock at the beginning of those companies.
4) In a year from now, where would you like to see Mialisa?
We would like to see Mialisia as a company in a year that designers, customers, and party hosts are thrilled to be a part of. We want to have a culture where people are not only happy but feel a part of something bigger than themselves. We want the designers to feel that they helped us build it because they will have! We want this company to be a family and are setting the tone from day one. If we do that then the rest will take care of itself!
